Coast Guard Issues Policy Letter Regarding Certain Electronic Certificates and Policy Letter Regarding Towing Vessel Deficiency Reporting

On November 27, 2017, the U.S. Coast Guard Issued a Policy Letter regarding acceptance of certain electronic certificates. The policy letter is intended to communicate the conditions under which electronic certificates may be issued on behalf of and accepted by the Coast Guard.

In addition, the Coast Guard also issued a policy letter regarding towing vessel deficiency reporting.  As stated in the policy letter, its “purpose is to provide guidance to the Towing Vessel National Center of Expertise (NCOE), Officer(s) in Charge, Marine Inspection (OCMI), Third Party Organizations (TPO), and the marine industry on the recording and reporting of deficiencies and non-conformities on vessels whose owners have chosen to use the TSMS option.”
